Get a free digital timer when you enroll in Three-Tier Time-of-Use by April 30, 2012! Learn about the rate by downloading the PDF and watching the short video, then Get Started today.

With Three-Tier Time-of-Use rate, you get lower per-kilowatt-hour electricity pricing during scheduled Off-Peak hours. So the more of your appliance and electronics use you can shift to those low-cost hours, the better chance you'll have to shrink your bills — up to 10% off your current costs.

Compare the potential for savings on this rate compared to the Standard residential rate.

With spring approaching, how can you make it easier to achieve your Three-Tier Time-of-Use savings goals?

  • Plug-in To Digital Timers. Lamps, game consoles, TVs and other electronics can accidentally be left on during higher-priced On-Peak and Mid-Peak hours. Protect yourself by plugging them into digital timers set to automatically shut off.
  • Use Smart Power Strips. Plug multiple electronics or appliances into a single smart power strip. When you turn off one appliance, the rest shut off automatically.
  • Re-set Your Programmable Thermostat. Warmer weather could mean less of a need for heat. Consider setting your heating schedule back another hour if your home is staying warm enough without running the furnace.

Remember, you get low Off-Peak pricing all day on weekends and holidays, and generally weekday evenings. So make sure you're switching laundry and dishes, vacuuming and cooking, and TV- and movie watching to Off-Peak hours as often as you can.

Learn more about the Conservation Rate by downloading the PDF and watching the short, easy-to-follow video. Then, when you're ready, click Get Started.

If you've been pre-assigned or invited to participate in the Conservation Rate, you'll save money by reducing your overall energy consumption. Customers who are aware of their monthly use can lower their bills while still using energy at any time it's convenient for their lifestyles.

Customers on the Conservation Rate will save money by paying less than the Standard Rate for the first 1,000 kWh of electric use each month. Electricity used beyond that will be charged at a price higher than the Standard Rate.

By taking small steps, such as turning off computers, TVs, lights and appliances when not in use, Conservation Rate customers can save money while helping to find solutions to a growing demand for electricity.

Conservation Rate is limited to 200 customers and enrollment is by invitation only. Opt in here.

If you have the flexibility to control when you use energy in your home, the Response Rewards electric rate may be a smart move for you. Its objective is help you avoid the more expensive electric rates — those that result from times of highest demand known as On-Peak and Critical-Peak Periods.

When it's clear that demand for electricity is extra high and will start impacting prices, you'll be contacted by your choice of pager, text message, e-mail or fax at least one hour in advance. That gives you plenty of time to temporarily shut down or stop using high-use electrical items, such as your air conditioner, dehumidifier, clothes dryer or dishwasher in your home, as well as quickly shut off smaller appliances with a power strip. When the Critical-Peak Period is ending, you'll be notified in the same way at least 30 minutes in advance, allowing you to resume electricity use if you choose.

Critical-Peak Periods typically last between two and eight hours and account for less than 3 percent of all annual hours. And Off-Peak savings hours, times you pay less than the Standard Rate, are available to you every day of the week, and all day on weekends and major holidays. Compare the potential for savings on this rate compared to the Standard residential rate.

Customer enrolling in Response Rewards should request their free Smart Thermostat during the process. It automatically adjusts your thermostat for you, making it even easier to avoid high rates.

Cool Rewards can be an easy way to earn credits on your monthly energy bill by allowing your air conditioner and/or electric water heater to be occasionally shut down for short periods. You'll earn credits on your bill from June through September for your air conditioner, and all year for your water heater.

A small, remote-controlled switch is installed free of charge on your central air conditioner, water heater or both. If a power crunch occurs, these large energy-users will automatically be shut off or cycled on and off, without interfering with your other electrical appliances.

Shut-downs or power cycles most often occur in June through September, generally in the afternoon or early evening. They may last only an hour, never more than eight hours in a day, and usually only happen eight or 10 days per year.

Saving heat-generating activities for the evening hours and shutting blinds or shades during the day are two ways to stay cool while cutting your energy bills.
